On the instructions of Shehbaz Sharif, the Capital Development Authority has made all 21 routes of Islamabad’s electric bus service fully operational to provide affordable and quality transport to residents.
Officials said public response to the electric bus service continues to grow, with daily ridership increasing steadily. On a single day, 102,000 commuters used the service.
The update was shared during a meeting chaired by Muhammad Ali Randhawa to review progress on ongoing and proposed development projects in Islamabad.
Member Administration Talat Mahmood, Member Engineering Nifasat Raza, Member Planning Dr Khalid Hafeez, the director general procurement and contract, senior officers, and project directors attended the meeting. Participants reviewed multiple development schemes across the capital.
The meeting was informed that construction of the electric bus depot at two locations has reached its final stage, with 97 percent of work completed. Work at Site A of the depot has been completed in full.
Participants also reviewed progress on the project linking Margalla Avenue with the M-1 Motorway. The meeting further discussed construction of the Convention, Expo and Exhibition Centre and the proposed luxury hotel project in Islamabad.
