Confusion has surfaced across Punjab after claims on social media suggested possible changes to the ongoing winter vacation schedule for educational institutions.
Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat clarified that the government will not extend winter vacations and that all schools and colleges across the province will reopen on January 12, 2026.
The minister dismissed reports circulating online about any proposal to prolong the holidays, calling them false and misleading. In a brief statement, he urged the public to avoid believing or sharing unverified information regarding school and college schedules.
Earlier, the Punjab Education Department had officially announced winter vacations for all public and private educational institutions from December 22, 2025, to January 10, 2026.
Despite the notification, several private educational institutions reportedly failed to follow the directive. These institutions did not issue formal vacation notices and allegedly instructed students through WhatsApp messages to resume classes from January 6, 2026.
Parents and education stakeholders have raised concerns over the situation and called on the authorities to ensure that all private institutions strictly comply with the officially notified winter vacation period.
