Pakistan Announces Dedicated Security Unit for Chinese Nationals

Pakistan will set up a special protection unit in Islamabad dedicated to the security of Chinese nationals, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi announced on Wednesday.

Naqvi made the announcement during a meeting with China’s Minister of Public Security, Wang Xiaohong, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Public Security in Beijing.

During the discussions, both sides agreed to strengthen security cooperation between the two countries. This includes developing a joint rapid-response system to counter terrorism and expanding training programmes aimed at improving police capacity.

Wang praised Pakistan’s counter-terrorism efforts and acknowledged the country’s sacrifices in combating terrorism.

Emphasising the importance of safeguarding Chinese citizens and joint development projects, Naqvi said effective measures were already in place, including the formation of the special protection unit in Islamabad.

The two ministers also discussed cooperation in cybercrime prevention. Naqvi highlighted Pakistan’s interest in using Chinese artificial intelligence technologies to support the National Cyber Crimes Investigation Agency in addressing security challenges.

To formalise ongoing collaboration, Pakistan and China agreed to hold joint working group meetings every three months, along with an annual ministerial-level meeting.

Both sides also exchanged invitations for official visits, including participation in the Global Security Cooperation Forum scheduled to be held in China this September.
