Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan on Thursday visited the Islamabad–Murree Expressway to inspect beautification, expansion, and other development works.
During the visit, he instructed authorities to construct mosques at rest areas on both sides of the expressway, with separate prayer facilities for women, according to an official statement.
Officials briefed the minister that authorities have completed all major work on the expressway and that the project is ready for inauguration by the prime minister in the near future.
The minister reviewed facilities at the Murree Expressway rest areas and identified locations for mosque expansion, construction of ablution areas, and related facilities. He directed concerned officers to complete the remaining work within one week and stressed that construction quality and durability must be ensured.
Abdul Aleem Khan stated that the National Highway Authority carried out the project with high construction standards and provided lighting, green areas, service roads, and other basic facilities. He also said a new M-Tag–enabled toll plaza has become operational to provide improved services to travelers.
The minister noted that authorities removed road cuts and encroachments along the expressway, improving travel conditions for motorists and tourists heading to Murree.
