Major Relief Announced for Pakistanis Applying for German Nationality

Pakistan has formally finalized a dual nationality arrangement with Germany, allowing Pakistanis living in Germany to hold citizenship of both countries.

According to a public notice issued by the Embassy of Pakistan in Berlin, all codal formalities required to conclude the dual nationality arrangement have been completed. Germany has now been added to the list of countries with which Pakistan allows dual citizenship.

The embassy stated that Pakistan-origin residents of Germany who apply for German nationality will no longer be required to renounce their Pakistani citizenship. This marks a significant change for members of the Pakistani community in Germany who previously had to give up their Pakistani nationality to acquire German citizenship.

The notice also said that further details regarding the procedure for reclaiming Pakistani nationality will be shared separately. This applies to Pakistan-origin German nationals who had earlier renounced their Pakistani citizenship.

The announcement was issued by the Embassy of Pakistan in Berlin as an official public notice to inform Pakistani nationals and the wider community about the development.

Pakistan currently allows dual nationality with several countries under specific legal frameworks. The inclusion of Germany expands these arrangements and affects a large Pakistani diaspora residing there.
