The federal government has banned the general import of chloroform and restricted its import exclusively to pharmaceutical companies.
According to an official notification issued by the Ministry of Commerce, amendments have been made to the Import Policy Order 2022. The notification was issued following the approval of the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the federal Cabinet.
Only pharmaceutical companies or related sectors will be allowed to import chloroform. However, such imports will be permitted only after obtaining a no-objection certificate (NOC) from the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP).
Officials said chloroform is considered harmful to human health and the environment. The latest decision aims to curb its misuse and keep its movement restricted.
