Apple Hands Siri’s AI Future to Google

Apple has chosen Google’s Gemini AI to power its upcoming revamped version of Siri, confirming earlier reports. The agreement is described as a multi-year partnership that will rely on Google’s AI models and cloud infrastructure.

According to a statement obtained by CNBC, the partnership will see Apple “lean on Google’s Gemini models and cloud technology for future Apple Foundation Models.” The decision follows Apple’s internal evaluation of available AI technologies.

Apple Explains the Decision

In a statement, Apple said it selected Google’s technology after a detailed review process. The company said:

After careful evaluation, we determined that Google’s technology provides the most capable foundation for Apple Foundation Models and we’re excited about the innovative new experiences it will unlock for our users.

News of the partnership lifted shares of both Apple and Google following the report. The announcement comes after repeated delays to Apple’s AI-powered Siri overhaul.

In March last year, Apple publicly acknowledged one of those delays and said the upgraded Siri would launch “in the coming year.” That window is now close to ending, but Apple has not provided any updated timeline or further details on when the revamped Siri will roll out to users.
