The Sindh government has decided to introduce four-year Bachelor of Studies (BS) programs in 164 additional government colleges across the province to expand access to affordable higher education.
Under the initiative, students will be able to pursue degrees in Science, Commerce, Arts, and Computer Science at nearby public colleges with low fees, reducing the need to travel long distances to universities.
The Sindh Colleges Department has taken formal steps to affiliate selected colleges with public universities to offer BS programs. Out of 376 government colleges in Sindh, 164 institutions have applied for university affiliation under the new plan.
Sindh Secretary for Colleges Nadeem ur Rehman told The Express Tribune that 55 colleges are already offering BS programs, and five more colleges in Karachi have received affiliation this year, raising the total to 60.
He added that approvals for BS programs in another 159 colleges are expected soon, with affiliations from additional universities under process.
Officials said the policy aims to provide quality undergraduate education at the local level and enable a larger number of students to continue higher studies within their own cities and districts.
