The University of Peshawar has still not paid salaries to employees in BPS-17 and above, while pensions for staff across all grades also remain pending, employees familiar with the matter said.
They added that no firm payment schedule has been shared so far, leaving workers and pensioners uncertain about when the dues will be cleared.
Staff groups representing both teaching and non-teaching employees have previously raised the issue publicly and warned that protests could be stepped up if payments continue to be delayed. They argue that the problem has become repetitive rather than exceptional and are calling for lasting steps to ensure predictable funding and timely disbursements.
University officials have earlier linked the situation to a widening gap between income and expenditure, citing higher operational costs and a growing deficit that has disrupted regular payments.
Employee representatives, however, say temporary fixes are no longer enough and insist the issue needs an immediate and sustainable solution to protect workers’ rights and prevent further disruption to the university’s functioning.
With salaries and pensions still outstanding, employees say they fear renewed agitation in the coming days if the impasse continues.
