The Islamabad Food Authority (IFA) conducted 625 inspections across the federal capital over the past 10 days, fining 59 food businesses a total of Rs. 1.203 million and sealing 14 outlets for violating food safety and hygiene regulations.
The performance review was held during a meeting chaired by Additional Deputy Commissioner (Headquarters) Uzair Khan, where officials said four inspection teams carried out enforcement operations to improve compliance with food safety standards.
According to the briefing, inspection teams issued 387 improvement notices and four verbal warnings to food businesses found violating hygiene and safety requirements. The authority also acted on 14 public complaints, taking enforcement action against the establishments concerned.
Officials informed the meeting that the authority also registered one criminal case and disposed of 3,557 kilograms of unsafe and unhealthy food to prevent it from reaching consumers.
Addressing the meeting, Uzair Khan directed officials to respond promptly to public complaints and ensure impartial enforcement against all restaurants and food outlets. He also instructed inspection teams to strictly follow standard operating procedures, including collecting food samples during inspections.
The Additional Deputy Commissioner emphasized that violations of food safety standards would not be tolerated and said enforcement operations would continue across Islamabad to ensure safe and hygienic food for residents.
