The TAL Joint Venture has discovered gas from the Lockhart Formation at its exploratory well Bilitang-1, located in the district Kohat, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, according to a notification issued to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX).

Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) informed the PSX that the discovery was made in the partner-operated TAL Block by the joint venture led by MOL Pakistan Oil & Gas Co. B.V. as operator with a 10 percent working interest.

The remaining stakes are held by Oil & Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) with 30 percent, PPL with 30 percent, Pakistan Oilfields Limited (POL) with 25 percent, and Government Holdings Private Limited (GHPL) with 5 percent.

The Bilitang-1 well was spudded on August 10, 2025, and successfully drilled to a total depth of 4,011 meters true vertical depth (TVD). Based on the interpretation of logging-while-drilling and wireline log data, the Lockhart Formation, the primary exploratory target, was tested successfully.

Testing results show gas flow at a rate of 1.37 Million Standard Cubic Feet Per Day (MMSCFD) at a 32/64-inch choke, with a wellhead flowing pressure of 254 psi.

The companies said the discovery has de-risked further exploration potential in the TAL Block and opened new upside opportunities for future drilling activity in the area.
