The federal government is planning to establish a dedicated University Town in Islamabad, a major initiative aimed at providing international standard education facilities for students from across Pakistan.
The announcement was made by Interior Minister Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi while addressing a ceremony at Quaid-i-Azam University. He said the concept is being developed under the upcoming Islamabad Vision 2027 and will be formally announced soon.
According to the minister, the proposed University Town will be designed to attract students from all parts of the country. It will offer modern academic, research, and residential facilities in line with global standards, with the aim of strengthening higher education in the federal capital.
Speaking about Quaid i Azam University, Mohsin Naqvi said Islamabad remains incomplete without the institution and described it as central to the city’s academic identity. He added that higher education will play a key role in shaping Islamabad’s future development.
The interior minister also expressed dissatisfaction with the current entrance of Quaid i Azam University, saying it does not reflect the stature of the institution. He announced that the Capital Development Authority will be directed to redesign and beautify the university’s main entrance.
He further stated that the existing auditorium at the university does not meet modern requirements and will be upgraded into a state of the art facility.
On the issue of land and encroachments, the minister reiterated that the government has a clear policy on public land. He said illegal occupation should be vacated voluntarily and that operations against encroachments will continue across Islamabad.
He added that if any illegal constructions are found within the 1,709 acres of Quaid i Azam University land, they will be removed. The minister also reaffirmed that the Prime Minister’s laptop scheme remains a government priority and highlighted Quaid i Azam University’s importance in national education policy.
