Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has introduced a new permit service allowing residents to install parking shades in designated residential parking spaces.
The permit is available exclusively for properly reserved parking spots and can be applied for through the RTA website.
The authority said applications will be processed via approved contracting companies through a unified digital portal that coordinates approvals from all relevant government entities.
The initiative aims to address residents’ concerns over extreme summer heat and the growing number of vehicles in residential communities.
RTA said the service supports its broader strategy to enhance quality of life while preserving Dubai’s urban planning standards and visual appeal.
Arif Shakri, Director of Right-of-Way at RTA’s Traffic and Roads Agency, said the installation of parking shades must comply with strict safety and design guidelines.
He emphasized that the shades must not obstruct pedestrian movement, disrupt traffic flow, block road signs, or interfere with infrastructure and utility services.
Shakri added that all parking shades must follow approved design and color standards and remain temporary in nature, allowing removal when required for development projects, maintenance work, or emergencies.
The RTA said the new permit service reflects its commitment to balancing residents’ needs with safety, accessibility, and sustainable urban development.
