Out of 833 buildings recently surveyed across the city district, authorities have declared 13 structures highly dangerous and in need of urgent measures to prevent any incident.
The findings came to light during a meeting of the district emergency board chaired by Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Ali Ijaz. Representatives from Rescue 1122, the Water and Sanitation Agency, the Lahore Development Authority, and the Lahore Electric Supply Company attended the meeting.
Officials informed the meeting that the unsafe buildings must undergo proper maintenance to improve their condition and upgrade them to A category status.
Addressing the participants, the deputy commissioner directed the immediate installation of fire hydrants in 665 industrial areas. He also instructed the Wasa managing director to begin installing fire hydrants at 108 commercial premises without delay.
The deputy commissioner ordered strict action against officials and building owners who show negligence in maintaining hazardous structures. He further stressed full compliance with fire safety rules and regulations.
In addition, he directed authorities to launch operations against encroachments in major commercial markets, particularly Shah Alam Market, Azam Cloth Market, and Ichra Bazaar. He also instructed assistant commissioners and relevant departments to enforce a complete ban on LPG decanting.
The deputy commissioner directed Lesco to remove unsafe and hanging electricity wires from all parts of the city.
