More than half of the buildings in Islamabad reportedly lack complete fire safety equipment, according to findings from an initial survey conducted by the Capital Development Authority (CDA).
According to Geo News, the CDA carried out a preliminary survey of high-rise buildings in Islamabad. The authority classified buildings taller than 15 meters as high-rise structures. The survey identified more than 500 high-rise buildings across the city.
The findings revealed that over 50 percent of Islamabad’s buildings do not have complete fire safety arrangements. Both government and private buildings were found to be violating building safety regulations.
In many high-rise buildings, authorities noted the absence or poor condition of basic equipment such as fire alarms, fire extinguishers, and fire hose reels.
Several high-rise buildings located in the Red Zone also lack proper fire safety systems. Multiple blocks of the Federal Secretariat do not have fire alarms or other essential firefighting equipment.
In addition, high-rise buildings in the Karachi Company area were found to have almost no fire safety arrangements.
Fire safety measures were also ineffective in buildings located in F 11, F 10, G 13, G 14, and Golra Mor.
In contrast, only a few high-rise buildings in the Blue Area were considered to have satisfactory fire safety standards.
