Major Road in Karachi Closed for 1 Week

The Karachi Traffic Police has announced a week-long closure of Jahangir Road due to ongoing construction work.

According to traffic officials, the section of Jahangir Road between Teen Hatti and Guru Mandir will remain closed.

Police said traffic moving from Teen Hatti toward Guru Mandir will be diverted toward Jail Chowrangi.

Officials advised motorists traveling from Teen Hatti to take the Pir Ilahi Bukhsh Road turn. From there, drivers can pass through Jail Chowrangi and Jamshed Road to reach Guru Mandir.

Authorities also said heavy traffic will be diverted from Liaquatabad Dak Khana toward Nazimabad to reduce congestion.

Earlier, Murtaza Wahab said all ongoing development projects in Karachi will be completed within the next 100 days. He declared 2026 as the year of development for the city.

While speaking at a ceremony, the mayor said the city administration remains focused on accelerating development work and ensuring projects are completed on time.

He added that selected sections of the Karachi Red Line Project will be opened to the public in March and July.

Wahab said the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation is spending Rs46 billion from its own resources on development projects. He stressed that funds are available and work will continue without interruption.

He further said the city council approved the auction of scrap and unused materials, generating Rs227 million. The amount will be used to purchase five heavy trucks. These include two for the Environment and Municipal Services department and one each for encroachment removal, parks, and veterinary services.

The mayor also announced the construction of Jahangir Road and a new road linking Natha Khan Bridge to Pehlwan Goth, with Rs1.1 billion allocated for the projects.

He said the Korangi Causeway Bridge will be opened for public use soon. At the same time, the EBM Causeway has already been completed by representatives of Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.

Wahab said Karachi’s infrastructure is gradually improving. He added that strong intent and consistent planning are key to achieving the city’s development goals.
