The federal government has appointed Dr. Usman Anwar as the new Director General of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), according to an official notification issued by the Establishment Division.
The notification, dated February 3, 2026, states that Dr. Usman Anwar is a BS-21 officer of the Police Service of Pakistan and was serving as the Provincial Police Officer (PPO), Government of Punjab before this posting.
Under the order, he has been transferred and posted as DG FIA with immediate effect and will remain in the role until further orders. The appointment has been made under Section 3(2) of the Federal Investigation Agency Act, 1974, and also references Section 10 of the Civil Servants Act, 1973.
Before taking charge in Punjab, he served with the National Highways and Motorway Police. Over the course of his career, he has also held key policing and administrative assignments, including postings in the Punjab Counter Terrorism Department, Faisalabad (SSP Operations), and as Rawalpindi Chief Traffic Officer.
He has also worked at the Prime Minister’s Office in Islamabad, and previously served as District Police Officer (DPO) in Okara and Sargodha, along with stints in the Telecommunications wing and the Elite Police.
