Punjab Govt Issues Clarification on Viral Holidays Notification

The Punjab government on Monday responded to a notification circulating on social media that claimed multiple public holidays in the province in the first week of February.

Punjab Information Minister Azma Bokhari said the provincial government has not issued any such notification so far and dismissed the circulating document as unauthenticated.

The notification, dated February 2, 2026, and attributed to the Services and General Administration Department, claimed that public holidays would be observed in Punjab from February 4 to February 7. It listed February 4 as a holiday for Shab-e-Barat, February 5 for Kashmir Day, and February 6 and 7 as Basant holidays.

The clarification comes amid public discussion about extended holidays in Punjab. Earlier, Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz had announced that the province would observe a long weekend around Kashmir Day, with a provincial holiday for Basant on February 6, followed by Saturday and Sunday.

Following the circulation of the notification, the provincial government advised citizens and institutions to rely only on official announcements issued through authorized government channels.
