The Sindh government has decided to upgrade 300 treatment and prevention centers under the Rabies Control Program Sindh (RCPS) to strengthen rabies prevention and care across the province.
The decision was made during a meeting on the Rabies Control Program Sindh chaired by Chief Secretary Sindh Asif Hyder Shah. During the meeting, it was shared that rabies treatment facilities will be provided throughout the province at intervals of every 10 to 15 kilometers.
Officials confirmed that all 300 rabies centers across Sindh’s districts will be upgraded. The Chief Secretary said the Government of Sindh has adopted a comprehensive and proactive approach to address the challenge of rabies in the province. He added that medicines and vaccines will be procured to ensure timely treatment for patients.
The meeting was informed that the centers will be upgraded in phases, with improved facilities, standardized treatment protocols, and better service delivery. In addition, staff working under the rabies control program will receive training to enhance their technical skills and clinical capacity.
Authorities also announced that a province-wide awareness campaign will be launched to promote timely treatment of rabies.
The decision comes amid a recent sharp increase in dog-bite and rabies cases reported by hospitals across Sindh, raising serious public health concerns. In January alone, more than 3,400 dog-bite cases were reported in Karachi, and the province recorded its first rabies-related death of 2026.
