Kite-flying activities in Lahore generated over Rs2 billion in sales of kites and related materials between February 1 and 7, as residents celebrated the return of the Basant festival after years of restrictions.
The historic city’s skies filled with colorful kites as authorities allowed the traditional festival under regulated conditions.
According to the President of the District Kite-Flying Association, sales of kite-flying materials exceeded Rs500 million during the three official festival days alone.
Association president Shaikh Saleem said rising production and supply costs had increased kite and string prices, but appreciated the public for complying with government safety regulations.
He also urged authorities to announce Basant celebrations at least three months in advance to help stabilize market prices and allow manufacturers adequate preparation time.
The Punjab government officially permitted Basant celebrations from February 6 to 8 under the Punjab Regulation of Kite Flying Act 2025
