China, Pakistan Sign New Deals to Boost Livestock, Agri-Tech Cooperation Under CPEC 2.0

China and Pakistan have signed new agreements to expand cooperation in livestock technology and agricultural research under the second phase of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, as both sides move beyond infrastructure toward industry and innovation.

According to Radio Pakistan, the latest collaboration followed a visit by Jinan Animal Husbandry Industry Craftsman College to Pakistan in January during the 2026 China-Pakistan Agriculture Investment Conference, where multiple cooperation documents were finalized.

The agreements aim to strengthen livestock breeding, veterinary sciences and technology transfer, sectors that are central to Pakistan’s rural economy and employ millions of people. Officials say the initiative aligns with what is being described as CPEC 2.0, which focuses on industrial cooperation, agriculture modernization and private sector partnerships rather than only roads and power projects.

Under the new arrangements, a Framework Agreement on Industrial and Technological Cooperation and Talent Training was signed with the Pakistan-China Joint Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The agreement will lead to the establishment of a China-Pakistan Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Industry Technology Cooperation Center.

The proposed center is expected to focus on research and development, setting industry standards and offering customized training programs to build technical capacity in Pakistan’s livestock sector.

A separate Memorandum of Understanding was signed with GO DAIRY Private Limited for the transfer of sheep in vitro fertilization technology and dairy cow breeding techniques. The agreement also includes technical guidance to address production bottlenecks and improve efficiency.

In addition, consensus was reached with the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences on curriculum collaboration and the creation of a joint training base to strengthen academic and technical linkages.

Experts from both countries will focus on three main areas of cooperation, including Himalayan pink salt applications, sheep in vitro fertilization and dairy cow breeding. Plans are also underway to establish a joint laboratory to support the localization of technology and applied research.

Launched in 2015 under China’s Belt and Road Initiative, CPEC initially centered on highways, energy plants and the development of Gwadar port. In recent years, the focus has shifted toward industrial growth and technology-driven cooperation, with agriculture emerging as a priority area for deeper bilateral engagement.
