Professor Azhar Shah, Pro Vice Chancellor of the University of Sindh’s Dadu Campus, has been suspended after videos circulating on social media showed him visibly intoxicated, prompting the provincial government to order a formal investigation.
According to officials, the Sindh government took notice of the matter after the footage went viral online, with allegations that the professor used unsuitable language, disrupted academic activities, and appeared at work in an unprofessional state. The controversy drew criticism and raised concerns about the institution’s reputation.
The university’s pro-chancellor, who also serves as the provincial minister for universities and boards, directed the vice chancellor to immediately suspend Azhar Shah and initiate an inquiry to determine the facts. In a letter to the university administration, the minister stated that the videos had reportedly caused damage to the university’s image and required urgent examination.
Authorities have instructed that the inquiry be conducted in accordance with legal procedures, ensuring the accused is given a fair opportunity to present his position. The investigation has been given a 15-day deadline, after which a detailed report containing findings and recommendations will be submitted to the pro-chancellor.
The case will also be placed before the university’s syndicate for further consideration and any action deemed necessary under the law.
