Punjab Police Officers to Wear Body Cameras Soon

Punjab Police will equip officers and traffic personnel with body cameras in phases over the next two months, Inspector General of Police Abdul Kareem announced while reviewing ongoing reform measures at the Central Police Office.

He chaired a meeting on the implementation of reforms under the “Fast, Fearless, Transparent Justice” initiative and outlined steps aimed at improving accountability and public trust.

The IGP said authorities are installing panic buttons outside police stations to allow citizens to immediately report misconduct or denial of service. He directed officers at police stations, offices, checkpoints, and Khidmat Marakaz to address members of the public respectfully as “sir,” “madam,” “sahib,” or “sahiba.”

The department will arrange counseling and training sessions to improve professional conduct. He warned that officers involved in corruption, abuse of authority, or misconduct will face strict and immediate action.

The IGP also ordered all CCTV cameras at police stations to remain fully operational and instructed officials to ensure proper backup systems. Authorities are activating a modern control and monitoring room at the Central Police Office to oversee police stations more effectively.

Through the Safe Cities system, officials will directly monitor stations, SHOs, moharrirs, and investigation rooms.
