Four hospitals in Pakistan are finalising preparations to receive free childhood cancer medicines by the end of 2026 under a partnership with the World Health Organization, according to an official press release issued Thursday.
The initiative, implemented through the Global Platform for Access to Childhood Cancer Medicines, aims to improve access to life-saving cancer treatment for children, as more than 8,000 new childhood cancer cases are diagnosed annually in the country.
The programme seeks to strengthen treatment availability by supplying quality-assured medicines to public health facilities.
Authorities said seven additional treatment centres are expected to become ready to receive medicine supplies in 2027, expanding access to essential cancer care nationwide.
