Karachi Airport’s Main Runway Inaugurated After Upgrade

The Pakistan Airports Authority said Secretary of Defence Lieutenant General (retd) Muhammad Ali inaugurated the newly reconstructed main runway 07L/25R at Jinnah International Airport on Saturday.

Additional Secretary of Defence Major General Qaiser Suleman attended the ceremony along with PAA Director General Air Vice Marshal Zeeshan Saeed, Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority Director General Nadir Shafi Dar, Deputy DG (Works & Development) Sameer Saeed, Project Director Hafiz Zahid Ishaq, Director Planning & Development officials, Airport Manager Adnan Khan, and other senior officers.

According to the PAA, the Code 4F runway can accommodate Airbus A380 aircraft and was completed within 18 months in line with International Civil Aviation Organization Annex 14 standards. The authority stated that the project was delivered without delays, cost overruns, claims, or accidents.

Addressing the ceremony, the defence secretary said the completion of the runway demonstrates Pakistan’s capacity to execute major infrastructure projects in accordance with international standards. He commended the PAA leadership, engineers, and technical teams for finishing the project within the approved timeline and budget.

At the event, officials presented commemorative shields to the secretary of defence and the additional secretary. The secretary also awarded honorary shields to the PAA director general, the CAA director general, and other officials in recognition of their services.

  • Commendable job executed by PAA in completing the reconstruction of old runway in a given time thereby augmenting the existing airside operational facilities. At the same time we need to review the Jinnah Terminal facilities that should also augmented. Jinnah Terminal project which was conceived in eighties but its two satellites as given in the plan were shelved during its initial phase. These two settalites comensurating with traffic growth need to be constructed on immediate priority with out any further delay to ensure safe and smooth parking and st the same time conveince and comfort for passenger embarkation and disembarkation through passenger loading bridge.
