UK Police Arrest Prince Andrew on His 66th Birthday Over Latest Epstein Allegations

Former Prince Andrew was arrested in England on his 66th birthday after allegations tied to his relationship with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein resurfaced in a new criminal investigation.

Authorities detained Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor on suspicion of misconduct in public office, an offense that can carry severe penalties under UK law.

The arrest reportedly centers on claims that confidential trade-related documents were improperly shared with Epstein.

Police arrived at the Sandringham Estate early Thursday with multiple unmarked vehicles and plainclothes officers. The operation took place around the time Andrew was believed to be at Wood Farm, a property on the estate associated with him in recent years.

Officers were seen entering and exiting the premises, and at least one carried equipment consistent with digital evidence collection.

A separate search was also carried out at a property in Berkshire that has been linked to Andrew in past reporting, though police did not publicly name him, citing legal restrictions.

A police spokesperson said Andrew remains in custody while enquiries continue.

The core accusation involves the handling of confidential material connected to official travel and trade engagements. Under the Official Secrets Act, certain information remains protected even after an individual leaves an official role. Investigators are examining whether any sensitive documents were passed on in breach of those obligations.

Andrew, who remains eighth in line to the throne, has repeatedly denied wrongdoing in matters connected to Epstein.

King Charles III issued a statement expressing concern about the arrest while emphasizing that the investigation should proceed without interference, saying the law must be allowed to take its course. The royal household was reportedly not informed in advance of the arrest, and scheduled royal engagements continued.

Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer also addressed questions on the case, stressing the principle that no one is above the law, and describing the matter as one for police to handle.

The arrest comes amid renewed scrutiny following the release and review of large volumes of Epstein-related records in the United States.

Prince Andrew was previously investigated in connection with longstanding allegations made by Virginia Giuffre, who said she was trafficked and forced into sex with him while underage.

He was never charged and denied the allegations, but later reached a civil settlement while still maintaining his innocence. He also stepped back from public royal duties and lost military affiliations and patronages as the scandal deepened.
