Veteran Indian Cricketer Credits Imran Khan for Shaping Pakistan’s Stars

Former Indian cricketer Yograj Singh has praised Imran Khan for his influence on some of Pakistan’s greatest cricket stars, describing him as a “father figure” to an entire generation of players.

“When these players started cricket, they had only one father figure, Imran Khan,” Singh said, referring to Pakistan’s legendary former captain and World Cup-winning leader.

Singh highlighted that players such as Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis, and Inzamam-ul-Haq rose to prominence because Imran Khan provided them with direction and belief early in their careers.

“Players like Waqar Younis, Wasim Akram, Inzamam-ul-Haq rose because Imran Khan gave them direction and belief,” he said.

Singh also expressed concern over Khan’s current circumstances, stating, “Today, that same man is in jail for his own people and country.”

In addition to Singh’s remarks, several prominent former cricketers have voiced support for Imran Khan, praising his legacy in cricket and calling for fair treatment and proper medical care during his imprisonment.

A group of 14 former international cricket captains has written a joint letter to the Government of Pakistan, urging authorities to ensure proper medical care and humane treatment for Khan.

In the letter, the former captains called on the government to provide adequate medical care and dignified detention conditions in line with international standards.

“We, the undersigned former captains of our national cricket teams, write with deep concern regarding the reported treatment and incarceration conditions of Imran Khan, the distinguished former Captain of Pakistan and a legendary figure in world cricket,” the letter stated.

Khan is currently being held at Adiala Prison following his conviction in corruption-related cases. Supporters have raised concerns about his health, alleging significant vision loss and limited access to personal medical care and family visits.
