The district administration of Layyah has imposed a ban on leaving open pits and deep excavations unattended without proper safety measures to prevent potential threats to public safety.
Layyah Deputy Commissioner Asif Ali issued strict directives requiring landowners and other responsible individuals to immediately fill, cover, or secure open pits, ponds, and other areas where water accumulates.
According to the deputy commissioner, stagnant water in open pits and ditches creates breeding grounds for mosquitoes and poses a serious risk of drowning, particularly for children.
The administration has emphasized that immediate action is required to address these hazards and ensure public safety across the district.
District officials have also been working on broader water safety and public health initiatives. In January, the administration approved the installation of more than 160 water filtration plants across Layyah to improve drinking water quality and reduce health risks associated with unsafe water sources.
