Work at the Ministry of Finance was disrupted once again this week after the government’s e-Office system developed technical faults, just days before a visiting delegation of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) is due to begin its economic review.
Officials told ProPakistani that the Finance Division formally wrote to the National Information Technology Board (NITB) on February 19, drawing attention to serious system failures that slowed routine work at the ministry and halted the movement of official files.
It is pertinent to mention that similar glitches have been reported every two to three weeks, with no permanent fix implemented so far by the relevant authorities.
Issues So Far
The e-Office platform was introduced on the directives of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to promote paperless governance across all federal ministries and divisions. However, the system continues to suffer from repeated login failures, workflow errors, and frequent freezes.
Office employees reported being unable to authenticate, while files failed to move through approval stages despite meeting all required criteria. Sources added that the system was extremely slow and often froze during use, disrupting official work.
In its written communication to NITB, the Finance Division stated that repeated phone calls for technical support had failed to resolve the issue, severely affecting routine operations. The ministry urged that services be restored immediately on a priority basis.
NITB officials acknowledged the disruption, stating that the e-Office system was undergoing maintenance and optimization. The board’s chief executive said the system was facing heavy traffic pressure due to increased usage as more departments were onboarded. He added that infrastructure upgrades were underway, including the establishment of a disaster recovery site and enhanced security measures.
Officials acknowledged that the e-Office system had been restored and announced plans to conduct a stress test over the weekend to assess system capacity and stability.
However, finance ministry officials maintain that outages have become a recurring issue with key economic engagements including the IMF review, just days away.

WTF is e-office? It’s been 70 years since we gained independence and over 50 years of boot-licking experience (of Western original English speakers) by our government officials, and we still haven’t come up with good names?
Guess who’s leading the devs? Some jutt, arain, rana, mughal, bhatti and chughtai
How can someone imagine good development team with casteist mentality groomed personals. Take a look at present education minister for an example.
