OGDCL Makes Another Oil and Gas Discovery in KP

Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) has announced a new oil and gas discovery at its exploratory well Baragzai X-01 (Slant) in the Nashpa Block, located in Kohat district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

In a notice sent to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) on Thursday, the company said the discovery was made in the Lumshiwal formation following a Cased Hole Drill Stem Test (CHDST-04) conducted in the Hangu and Lumshiwal formations.

According to OGDCL, the well produced 225 barrels of oil per day (BOPD) and 1.01 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) of gas through a 32/64-inch choke at a wellhead flowing pressure of 190 psig.

OGDCL operates the Nashpa Exploration License with a 65% working interest. Its joint venture partners include Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) with a 30% stake and Government Holdings (Private) Limited (GHPL), which holds a 5% carried interest.

The Baragzai X-01 (Slant) well was spudded on December 30, 2024, to test the hydrocarbon potential of multiple formations, including Lockhart, Hangu, Lumshiwal, Samana Suk, Shinawari, Datta, and Kingriali. The well was drilled to a total depth of 5,170 meters, reaching the Kingriali formation.

OGDCL said three earlier cased hole drill stem tests conducted in the Kingriali, Datta, and Samana Suk plus Shinawari formations had also resulted in oil and gas discoveries.

The company noted that the latest discovery would help mitigate the country’s energy supply-demand gap by adding indigenous hydrocarbon resources to the national reserves base.
