Google has introduced Nano Banana 2, officially known as Gemini 3.1 Flash Image, following the recent release of Gemini 3.1 Pro. The new model replaces Nano Banana Pro across the Fast, Thinking, and Pro tiers inside Gemini.
Nano Banana Pro will remain available to Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers for specialized tasks. Users can access it through the three-dot menu within the interface.
Expanding to Search and AI Mode
Nano Banana 2 is also being integrated into Google Search’s AI Mode. It will be accessible through the Google app as well as on mobile and desktop browsers.
Google says the new model combines the advanced world knowledge, image quality, and reasoning capabilities of Nano Banana Pro with significantly faster performance. The company positions it as enabling rapid edits and quick iteration.
Real-Time Data and Editing Capabilities
The tool is powered by real-time information and images from web search. This allows it to render specific subjects more accurately.
Google states that Nano Banana 2 has a deeper contextual understanding, enabling it to generate infographics, convert notes into diagrams, and produce data visualizations.
The model also generates clear and legible text within images. It can translate and localize text directly inside an image.
Visual Fidelity and Complex Prompts
According to Google, Nano Banana 2 narrows the gap between speed and visual fidelity while delivering high-quality, photorealistic images. The system can maintain character resemblance for up to five characters and preserve the fidelity of up to 14 objects within a single workflow.
The model is designed to adhere closely to complex prompts and capture detailed creative instructions. Google says it delivers improved lighting, richer textures, and sharper visual details.
