The Inspector General of Motorway Police has announced a major crackdown against vehicle overloading on Pakistan’s motorways.
The announcement came during a meeting in Karachi between Inspector General of Motorway Police Sultan Ahmed Chaudhry and a delegation of goods transporters. The meeting focused on the issue of overloading and the effective enforcement of axle load limits on motorways.
During the discussion, goods transporters also called for strict and indiscriminate action against overloading, stressing the need for uniform enforcement across the transport sector.
Participants proposed measures to control overloading at source points, including ports and factories, to prevent violations before vehicles enter the motorway network.
The All Pakistan Goods Transport Owners Association raised several concerns, including difficulties in obtaining heavy vehicle driving licenses and problems faced by drivers. The association also requested the provision of driving license facilities in every sector.
In addition, the association demanded an end to what it described as unauthorized challans issued to open-body vehicles.
Responding to the concerns, the IG Motorway Police stated that the issuance of heavy vehicle driving licenses would begin soon.
The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to establishing a safe, regulated, and well-organized transport system across the country.
