In a major anti-corruption success, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has retrieved 350 acres of illegally allotted government land in Karachi’s Clifton area, valued at approximately Rs423.5 billion.
The recovered property spans Clifton Block-I and Block-II and is considered one of the largest land recoveries in recent history.
NAB launched a thorough investigation into illegal allotments linked to senior officials from the Land Utilisation Department, Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC), and Karachi Development Authority (KDA).
Investigators found that the officials had allocated the seabed-reclaimed land to private entities at minimal cost, causing significant losses to the national exchequer.
Following NAB’s intervention, all illegal allotments were canceled, and the land has been officially restored to the Sindh government.
A NAB spokesperson said the operation was the result of a coordinated effort with the Board of Revenue, Sindh. “By acting before the land could be sold or encumbered, NAB blocked a massive fraudulent transaction and safeguarded the national exchequer,” the statement read.
The bureau reaffirmed its commitment to the policy of “Accountability for All” and continues to pursue individuals involved in the misuse of public resources.
