ARY News and Geo News Hack Triggers Major Investigation

A series of cyber attacks targeted multiple television channels, including major names such as Geo News and ARY News, temporarily disrupting their services.

Other websites and digital streaming platforms across Pakistan were also targeted, which led to similar disruptions.

The incidents came to light after the satellite frequency of Geo News and ARY News was reportedly hacked, leading to the appearance of unauthorized content before normal transmissions were restored.

Officials confirmed that the National Computer Emergency Response Team (NCERT) Pakistan has initiated a comprehensive technical investigation after receiving complaints about hacking attempts on private media networks and digital infrastructure.

Initial assessments suggest that attackers may have tried to compromise the streaming systems of two to three internet service providers. Another possibility under review is interference through satellite uplink devices.

Federal IT Minister Shaza Fatima Khawaja has convened an important meeting to review the incidents and coordinate a response strategy. Representatives from the Ministry of IT, the CERT Council, provincial CERT units, and sectoral computer emergency response teams are expected to attend the session to assess the scope and technical nature of the attacks.

Sources within the IT Ministry indicated that hostile foreign actors and organized hacker groups may have been involved in the cyber activity reported over the past day.

Two private television channels, including Geo News and ARY News, along with the streaming platform Tamasha, were among the platforms reportedly targeted. Technical teams later restored the affected services.

Authorities said forensic analysis is still ongoing and that no conclusions will be drawn until detailed technical reports are completed. National CERT officials remain in coordination with relevant national institutions, and a comprehensive report is expected after the investigation to help strengthen cybersecurity protections for broadcast and digital media systems.
