Punjab Approves New Mandatory Requirement for All Vehicles

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has approved province-wide electronic tagging of all vehicles, including motorcycles, as part of a broader set of security measures.

She cleared the proposal during a high-level law and order meeting, where officials decided to install e-tags on vehicles across Punjab to strengthen monitoring. The chief minister also directed authorities to present a comprehensive micro-security plan within seven days.

The meeting approved the establishment of a Punjab Cybercrime Investigation Unit, including a dedicated cell to assist women and children affected by online crimes. District-level online crime centers will also be set up.

The chief minister granted approval to appoint a head of the new unit. Maryam Nawaz Sharif directed authorities to enforce restrictions on movement through non-traditional provincial entry points.

She also approved installation of searchlights at key entry routes and deployment of drone surveillance systems. Officials were instructed to implement rooftop monitoring at check posts and initiate procurement of advanced drone defense systems.

The chief minister ordered continuation of combing operations against criminals and suspected militants and directed that Riot Management Police receive enhanced training and modern equipment. Security SOPs for Youm-e-Ali will be formulated after consultations with religious scholars.
