Motorcyclists Allowed to Buy Helmets Instead of Paying Challans

The National Highways and Motorway Police (NHMP) has launched a campaign titled “Challan Nahi, Helmet” to encourage helmet use among motorcyclists on national highways.

Under the initiative, officers stop motorcyclists travelling without helmets and advise them to purchase and wear one before a fine is issued. Officials say the cost of a helmet is roughly equal to the amount of the traffic challan.

If the rider buys and wears a helmet on the spot, the challan is not issued. The campaign aims to promote safer travel while raising awareness about helmet use.

Motorway Police spokesperson Inspector Saqib Waheed said the purpose of the campaign is to improve the safety of motorcyclists on highways. He said helmets protect riders from severe head injuries in the event of an accident.

He added that strict legal action will be taken against riders who continue travelling without helmets after purchasing one.

A motorcyclist travelling on the Murree Expressway said officers stopped him for not wearing a helmet. Instead of issuing a challan, they advised him to buy and wear one, after which he purchased a helmet and continued his journey.

  • Thats very considerate of the authority
Why don’t people wear them? No license should be given unless helmet is shown lol

  • This is the a tactics motor way has resorted to sell the unsold stock of helmets on exorbitantly high prices to the motor cyclist much over and above its market price forcibly. They should gift the helmet to such motor cyclists if they are so much concerned about their safety

    • Weird take. Why would people not wear helmets?

Better yet, why do people not turn on the headlight at night time? Maybe traffic police should sponsor their electricity bills…wait, headlight doesn’t need any grid connection.

  • nhmp might be a partner in helmet factory therefore its concerned about helmet sales.

  • Need to stop e challah forthwith, instead of such challan please start awareness program with trafic police and public coordination.
