PTA Proposes New Licenses for VPN, Tracking and Voice Services

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has initiated a public consultation process on draft class licenses for intranet, tracking, and voice services in Pakistan, inviting feedback from stakeholders and the general public.

According to the authority, the consultation is being undertaken in view of rapid advancements in communication technologies.

The process seeks input on three draft licenses, including a Data Class License for the provision of intranet data communication and VPN services, a Data Class License for tracking services, and a Voice Class License for the provision of voice communication services.

The PTA has invited telecom consumers, licensees, industry experts, policymakers, regulatory bodies, consumer associations, and other interested individuals to submit their written comments and views on the consultation papers. Stakeholders have been asked to respond in a tabulated format addressing the questions listed in the consultation documents.

The authority stated that comments should preferably be submitted in soft form to the Director (Strategy and Development) at PTA Headquarters in Islamabad within fifteen days of the publication of the notice.

The consultation papers are available on the PTA’s official website, and submissions can also be sent via email to the authority.
