US Embassy Islamabad Extends Consular Services Suspension

The United States Embassy in Islamabad has announced that its Consular Section will remain closed for routine services on Friday, March 6, due to possible protests across Pakistan.

In a security advisory, the U.S. government said the movement of all U.S. personnel in the country has been restricted as a precautionary measure in view of the anticipated demonstrations. Despite the suspension of routine operations, the embassy stated that staff will remain available to provide emergency consular assistance if required.

The advisory urged U.S. citizens residing in or visiting Pakistan to remain vigilant and closely follow local news for updates on the evolving situation.

American nationals have been advised to avoid areas where large public gatherings may occur, maintain awareness of their surroundings, and keep a low profile. The embassy also recommended carrying proper identification and cooperating with local law enforcement authorities when necessary.

In addition, U.S. citizens were encouraged to review their personal security plans and ensure their registration with the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) remains up to date so they can receive timely safety alerts and information from the embassy.

The mission added that citizens should continue to monitor their email and local media for further updates regarding consular appointments and embassy operations.
