Nintendo Sues US Government Over President Trump’s Agressive Tariffs

Nintendo has filed a lawsuit against the United States government over tariffs collected under executive orders issued by President Donald Trump. The company is seeking a refund for duties it paid under orders that invoked the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA).

The lawsuit was filed in the U.S. Court of International Trade. It follows a Supreme Court ruling that struck down tariffs imposed under IEEPA, with the court determining that the president exceeded his authority.

According to Nintendo’s complaint, viewed by TechCrunch, the tariffs have resulted in the collection of more than $200 billion on imports in total. More than a thousand companies have already filed lawsuits seeking refunds.

After the Supreme Court decision, which he described as “extraordinarily anti-American,” President Trump increased tariffs from 10% to 15%. In response, 24 states have filed lawsuits arguing that the president again exceeded his authority by raising the tariff rate.
