The Punjab government has increased the number of union councils across the province from 4,015 to 6,577, according to an official announcement.
Authorities have also completed the determination of union councils within Lahore’s Town Municipal Corporations.
According to the statement, the number of rural union councils has reached 4,056, while the number of urban union councils stands at 2,514.
The government also announced that Town Municipal Corporations will be established in Lahore, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Sargodha, and Multan. Similarly, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, Bahawalpur, and Bahawalnagar will also have Town Municipal Corporations.
As part of the restructuring of local government bodies, the number of Municipal Corporations has been increased from 11 to 33. Meanwhile, the number of Municipal Committees has risen from 182 to 220.
The allocation of union councils in Lahore’s Town Municipal Corporations has also been finalized. Model Town will have 77 union councils, Shalimar will have 72, and Lahore City will have 69 union councils.
In addition, Ravi Town Municipal Corporation will consist of 52 union councils, while Nishtar Town Municipal Corporation will have 40 union councils. Allama Iqbal Town Municipal Corporation will include 37 union councils, and Raiwind Town Municipal Corporation will consist of 32 union councils.
Furthermore, Saddar Town Municipal Corporation will have 29 union councils, while Wagah Town Municipal Corporation will include 25 union councils.
The changes are part of a broader administrative restructuring of local government bodies across Punjab.
