The National Highways and Motorway Police (NHMP) has announced reduced speed limits for vehicles on motorways and highways as part of the federal government’s fuel conservation measures.
According to the NHMP, the revised limits aim to reduce fuel consumption and support the government’s broader efforts to manage energy use amid the ongoing fuel situation.
Under the new limits, motorcars and light transport vehicles (LTV) will be allowed to travel at a maximum speed of 100 kilometers per hour on motorways, while their speed limit on highways has been set at 80 kilometers per hour.
For public service vehicles (PSV) and heavy transport vehicles (HTV), the maximum speed limit on motorways has been reduced to 90 kilometers per hour, while the limit on highways has been fixed at 65 kilometers per hour.
The NHMP said the adjustment in speed limits is intended to promote more efficient fuel usage and improve overall traffic management. Authorities added that the revised limits are being enforced in line with the government’s directives on fuel conservation and energy efficiency.
The move comes as the government has introduced several measures aimed at reducing fuel consumption and easing pressure on national energy resources. Motorway Police urged drivers to strictly follow the new speed limits to ensure safe travel and contribute to national fuel conservation efforts.

They are helpless, our petrol reserves are not highly sustainable and they cant do anything globally oil prices are high bcz of the closure of strait of hormuz and although saudi is exporting fuel ti pakistan they have to use the longer Red Sea Route which means higher fares.
Hence in a trickle down effect, petrol and diesel had to be raised to compensate for higher fares
