The National Assembly has introduced the Copyright (Amendment) Bill, 2026, aimed at updating Pakistan’s existing copyright framework and strengthening protections for creators.
The bill, which proposes amendments to the Copyright Ordinance, 1962, was presented in the House by Federal Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Dr. Tariq Fazal. After its introduction, the legislation was referred to the relevant committee for detailed review and discussion.
The proposed amendment aims to modernize Pakistan’s copyright law in order to provide better protection for creators and address contemporary copyright issues. Among the matters the bill seeks to address are concerns related to the re-arrangement or alteration of creative works.
At its current stage, the bill has only been introduced in the National Assembly and will undergo further examination by the committee before moving forward in the legislative process.
The Copyright (Amendment) Bill, 2026 is part of a broader set of legislative updates being introduced in 2026 to revise existing legal frameworks in Pakistan. Other proposed amendments include the National Tariff Commission (Amendment) Bill, 2026 and the Export Development Fund (Amendment) Bill, 2026.
In addition, similar legislative initiatives, including Private Member Bills in the Senate of Pakistan, reflect a wider effort to update laws across different sectors during 2026.
