The Punjab government is considering expanding the Chief Minister’s Laptop Scheme due to rising demand, with two different expansion models currently under review.
According to sources, the first model proposes increasing the program by 50 percent. Under this plan, the total cost of the scheme could reach around Rs. 40 billion, and approximately 165,000 students would receive laptops.
The second proposal recommends expanding the program by 100 percent, which could increase the total cost to about Rs. 54 billion. If approved, 220,000 students would be provided with laptops under the scheme.
Sources say the program’s current total cost is Rs. 27 billion, while Rs. 15 billion had initially been allocated for the first phase.
So far, more than 35,000 students have already received laptops. Meanwhile, the program has received over 143,000 applications from students.
According to details, the Punjab government will make the final decision on whether to expand the laptop scheme.
It is also worth noting that the Higher Education Department (HED) has extended the deadline for submitting applications for Laptop Scheme Phase 2.
Sources said students can now submit their online applications until March 20, and applications will only be accepted through the online system.
