UK Advises Citizens Against Travel to Gilgit-Baltistan

The United Kingdom has advised its citizens to avoid travelling to Gilgit-Baltistan amid security concerns in the region.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the United Kingdom’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) advised against all but essential travel to Gilgit-Baltistan. The advisory cited reports of unrest and protests, intermittent movement restrictions, and disruptions to mobile and internet services.

The FCDO also warned that travel insurance could become invalid if British nationals travel to the northern region despite the advisory.

The guidance follows an 11-day curfew imposed in Skardu and Gilgit after violent protests erupted over the assassination of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei during recent US-Israel strikes on Iran, which left more than 20 people dead.
