Punjab Introduces Issues New Guidelines for Exam Transparency

The Punjab School Education Department has issued new guidelines and standard operating procedures (SOPs) to make the annual examination system across the province more transparent and effective.

According to the department, authorities will place the paper marking process under strict monitoring to ensure accuracy and fairness in exam results.

As part of the new policy, 25 percent of schools across Punjab will have their exam papers selected for separate validation under the School-Based Assessment system.

Officials said the step aims to verify the accuracy of results and prevent inflated or incorrect marking.

School heads have been directed to maintain complete records related to the assessment process.

Authorities warned that strict action will be taken against institutions found involved in incorrect marking or manipulation of results, while schools presenting genuine results will be encouraged.

The department also instructed schools to maintain confidentiality and transparency in the examination process, including in government and outsourced schools.

The marking standard of Grade 8 examination papers will be independently reviewed by the Punjab Examination Commission.

Officials added that the performance of Directors of Public Instruction (DPIs), directors, and CEOs of education authorities will also be evaluated based on the quality of the assessment monitoring.

Meanwhile, authorities have started implementing biometric attendance for candidates at sensitive examination centers to strengthen transparency.

More than 6,000 students have already completed biometric verification to ensure the identity of candidates and reduce the chances of cheating or impersonation.

Officials further said that CCTV cameras and online monitoring systems will also be used to supervise matriculation examinations, helping maintain discipline and fairness during the exam process.

Experts believe that the introduction of biometric verification and digital monitoring will significantly improve the credibility and transparency of the examination system in Punjab.
