The Public Private Partnership (PPP) Committee has approved a waste-to-fuel project in Peshawar, aiming to promote sustainable waste management and reduce reliance on imported energy sources.
The approval came during the 10th meeting of the PPP Committee, chaired by Muhammad Sohail Afridi.
Officials said the project will convert municipal waste into Refuse-Derived Fuel (RDF) using modern technology, helping establish a more sustainable waste management system in the provincial capital.
During the meeting, the chief minister noted that the initiative will reduce dependence on imported coal, save foreign exchange, and create employment opportunities.
He also highlighted that the project could generate economic benefits through carbon credits and industrial applications.
According to a briefing presented to the committee, the RDF project will allow processed waste to be used as an alternative fuel in the cement industry, helping reduce waste accumulation at landfill sites and improving environmental conditions.
Authorities also plan to set up material recovery and waste processing facilities at the Shamshto Landfill Site under the project.
Officials further informed the committee that the unsolicited proposal submitted by a private company will be presented in the market to ensure transparency and encourage competitive participation.
The chief minister emphasized that the project will ease pressure on landfill sites while supporting environmental protection and economic sustainability in the province.
