Punjab Govt Plans New Work-From-Home Model for 50% Staff

The government is considering a proposal to cut federal expenses by introducing a work-from-home model for federal offices in Punjab.

Under the plan, employees would report to offices only two days a week, while working from home on the remaining days. Staff would be divided into two groups, with each group attending office on alternate days in a rotational system.

According to the proposal, 50 percent of employees would be present in offices during the first two days of the week, while the other half would come in on the following two days and work from home for the rest of the week.

The plan also suggests closing government offices on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, effectively implementing a four-day workweek.

Sources say the proposal aims to reduce government expenditures, conserve energy, and improve efficiency.

  • While this is an excellent initiative but it seems to be present only on paper, practically there is no mechanism to ensure compliance. For example Health administration is working all days a week and using maximum fuel (Not working towards any fuel cut). Unless strict measures are taken to ensure compliance by holding DCs, ACs and higher officials accountable this is not going to work and keep on increasing burden on precious government resources.
