Govt Releases Rs. 27 Billion to Settle Fuel Price Differential Claims

The federal government has released Rs. 27 billion to the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) to clear outstanding price differential claims and shield the general population from another fuel price hike.

The amount constitutes the first tranche from the Prime Minister’s Austerity Fund and has been disbursed at the directives of the premier.

The funds were generated through expenditure cuts and savings across various federal departments under recent austerity measures. These savings were pooled into the PM’s fund to support targeted relief efforts.

The price differential claims stem from the government’s earlier decision to absorb part of the increase in international oil prices. This prevented a full pass-through to domestic consumers.

Authorities are also weighing further cost-cutting steps to sustain relief measures while keeping fiscal targets intact. Additional savings are expected to be identified without straining the budget.
