Malaysia Launches New System for Hiring of Foreign Workers

Malaysia has introduced a new centralized system to simplify the process for companies hiring foreign workers in the manufacturing sector and selected service industries.

Under the new framework, the entire work pass application process will now be managed by the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA), allowing employers to submit and track applications through a single platform.

Single Platform for Work Pass Applications

The updated system integrates MIDA’s approval procedures with the existing Xpats Gateway portal. Companies can now handle the entire process through one login, instead of coordinating with multiple departments.

Officials say the digital process will largely follow the same timelines as before but will involve fewer administrative steps and clearer coordination between agencies.

The change mainly applies to employers hiring foreign professionals in:

  • Manufacturing companies
  • Selected service sectors approved by MIDA

MIDA to Oversee Entire Application Process

Under the new arrangement, MIDA will supervise all stages of the work pass process, including approval and final endorsement.

The system will cover several types of passes, including:

  • Employment Pass (EP)
  • Employment Pass for Foreign Graduates (EP-FG)
  • Professional Visit Pass (PVP)
  • Dependent Passes for family members

It will also handle post-approval processing and endorsement of passes.

What It Means for Foreign Professionals

For foreign professionals seeking employment in Malaysia, the new system does not change eligibility rules or visa validity periods. Instead, it focuses on improving how applications are processed.

Applicants may experience:

  • Faster coordination between government departments
  • Fewer administrative procedures for employers
  • Greater transparency in the approval process
  • Supporting Malaysia’s Economic Goals

Malaysia aims to strengthen its position as a regional hub for manufacturing, technology, and professional services. Officials say a streamlined visa and work permit process will help companies attract skilled international workers more efficiently.

By placing the entire application process under one authority, the government also hopes to reduce delays, avoid duplicate documentation requests, and improve consistency in decision-making.

The new system signals Malaysia’s efforts to modernize its immigration and employment procedures.

For companies hiring international talent and professionals planning to work in Malaysia, the centralized platform is expected to make the application process simpler and more predictable.
