Pakistan to Upgrade Power Grid in July With NGC

National Grid Company of Pakistan Limited is set to launch a new operating model from July 1, 2026, as part of a major transformation aimed at improving efficiency, accountability, and reliability in Pakistan’s power transmission system.

The development was shared during a briefing to Power Minister Awais Leghari, who reiterated full government support for the reform process, calling it a necessary step toward strengthening national energy infrastructure.

The transformation, which began in January 2026, seeks to address long-standing structural issues inherited from the company’s predecessor National Transmission and Dispatch Company, including fragmented responsibilities and operational inefficiencies.

Under the new framework, NGC is introducing reforms focused on improving project execution, strengthening financial oversight, enhancing regulatory coordination, and deploying modern digital systems for better grid management.

The restructuring is being led by Managing Director Altaf Hussain Malik, who emphasized that the goal is to align the company with global best practices and build a more responsive and efficient transmission network.

Officials said key leadership positions have been filled and new systems are nearing completion, with full operational and digital maturity expected by the end of 2026.
